BlueHouses summer football camp – still going strong

The popular Ballysillan Youth For Christ Summer football camp is back again this year for the 14th year running.  Our location this year is Mountpleasant Sports Facility (off Ballysillan Road) from 22nd – 26th July (10am – 1pm).  This football camp regularly attracts more than 70 boys between the age of 8 to 13 from the local community, spread across as many as 10 different schools.  It has often been said the big attraction of this particular week is the incredible group of coaches that is assembled, and this year shouldn’t be any different, and this group not only deliver fantastic coaching but generate an incredible atmosphere which each boy attending simply thrives on.  Peter Thompson who helps organise the camp states that “football camp provides an amazing opportunity to improve the footballing ability of every young person attending. However for myself and the team of coaches it is more about investing in the young person, their character and teaching them important life skills such as respect, encouragement, looking out for one another, team spirit and giving your all.  These are the things we try to instil during the week and we really see a huge difference in the confidence of each person by the end of the week, which many parents comment on, which is simply unreal”.

Highlights of the camp are the Olympic and World Cup tournaments, as well as the infamous ‘Gauntlet Run’ on the Friday morning, where the young people get their own back on the coaches!  Player of the day prizes are given away as well as a big award ceremony on the Friday.  This is a week that is not to be missed.  Here’s some feedback from parents from last years football camp.

  • Great 5 days, the boys have a great time, make new friends and are well looked after!
  • Well organised and great value for money
  • Somewhere where your kids can be encouraged and have great fun
